About UsAbout us Chucklebunnies began after I gave up secondary science teaching for a while due to poor health. I have made pockets for my own pets for a quite a while now, changing the design through experience. I started wrapping piggies in towels years ago to give them medicine and tried to get them used to being wrapped to help the medicine go down. By doing this, I found out that they liked to hide and play in towels so then I tried to sew the towels into pockets by hand. Unfortunately, they also like to find the stitches and pull them out - so I ended up using a sewing machine. The idea of using only recycled fabric comes naturally to a science teacher. I firmly believe that the small acts ordinary people can do will change the world, hopefully for the better. So making and selling recycled items for pets will help. I also found that the pockets and tunnels available to buy in pet shops were often simply wrong - the wrong material such as fake fur, no cotton based lining as if the animals wouldn't follow their instinctive behaviour patterns to chew and even a pocket strap made of string which would be terribly uncomfortable to put around your neck. There were metal buckles, which would be 'toothed' of course, and they were generally expensive. It would be a shock to someone who had paid a fortune for a hamster pouch when their hamster happily shredded it! Tunnels were often rigid, no hiding places, and some of these weren't even easily washable. You don't have to have a pet for long before appreciating the value of comfy but easily cleaned items for them. After ranting a bit, I was persuaded by friends to start selling them myself and set up Chucklebunnies (with a lot of help!). I know beyond any doubt that these pockets and tunnels make my own pets happier, I sincerely hope that they will do the same for yours. |
